What time is it...

It's time to eat!

Do you remember K's first couple blog posts?  She was so skittish and really wouldn't come near us. She would pancake to the ground, ears pined and her face was tight.  Check her out now!  K is proof of what can happen if you meet the dog where they are at and move at a pace comfortable to them.  If we would have forced our expectation onto K, you would be seeing a very different dogs.  K has only been with us for 2.5 weeks and she's doing amazing!

Dogs that are forced into doing things, quickly shut down and once a dog shuts down everything becomes hard or nearly impossible.  They do this in a variety of ways, giving ample warning signs in body language.  As always, it's the humans job to pay attention to what the dog is telling us.  I've really come to understand how important it is to be open, curious, flexible and comfortable with adjusting my expectations.

Having a full belly equals taking a rest!

K's face is much softer these days... and her worry about the camera is all gone

    1. That's my Catty girl! I adopter her through New Rattitude back in 2010 and she got this all started :) And that is her trick of "sit pretty" - funny girl! She's also the dog on the far left of the banner picture on this blog.
