Royal taking it to the street

We've been building up to incorporate "sit" outside.  With any new skill you always want to set the dog up for success and this can be done by "breaking down" the training into small attainable goals.  Remember we started working on "sit" in the house Sit part 1  & Sit part 2 and we made sure to begin in a room that Royal feels comfortable with.  Then we moved onto the hallway Sit part 3 and then in different rooms on our house, out on the back deck and out in the back yard.

Why are we doing all the builiding up of where we are "sitting"?  If a dog is stressed by the environment their brain cannot relax and therefore struggle with learning.  Once Royal was relaxed enough he quickly figured out the game of training.

And as you can see, we've made it outside with "sit". If  there was any point where Royal was struggling we would need to go back to the last successful step and work there a little bit longer before moving on.  Remember, setting you and your dog up for success is key for both of you.  Training should be fun for both of you!

Royal is very focused when it comes to working

While I wanted I wanted to teach Royal how to sit - my main goal with all of this work was to build trust in our training relationship and to increase his confidence.  While "sit" may not seems like a big deal - it's now somethig Royal is really good at.  As we all know, being good at something builds our confidence and that's no different for a dog, just ask Royal!
