Royal has arrived!

Transport arrived a little after 11pm last night and Royal was more than ready to move onto his next destination.  He traveled quietly in my car and slept through the night in his crate without making a peep.  Good news that he ate a meal (some new foster dogs are too stressed to eat right away).

We then headed out early to go to the dog park so that he could stretch his legs while running off some of that "where am I" nervous energy. Stay tuned for posts on the dog park.  Once we were home, it was time for a some down time and he took a much deserved nap in his crate.

Next step was introducing Royal to our own dogs - Catty and D'light.  We have a whole system in place of how we intro dogs since Catty can initially be reactive with new dogs.  Happy to report the intro's went smooth and as you can imagine Royal is pretty bushed.  After checking out the house (he is belly banded - we do this with all dogs coming into foster care) it was time for kicking back and getting some much deserved rest.

We often forget how much pressure we are placing on a dog coming into a new environment with new people and new dogs.  Even when we are watching and managing the environment the dog is still going through a level of stress.  I'm in constant awe that the dogs handle this as well as they do.  Can't say I would do nearly as well being put in a similar situation.

Royal is a very, very sweet boy.  He has great dog skills, walks lovely on leash and clearly wants to connect with people.  I can already tell you that he's a gem!

Welcome Royal!
