As I've mentioned, Torii had a rough life before coming into foster care - Her shelter experience was very stressful for her, she was overweight which made breathing and moving more difficult, her teeth were in bad shape, her nails were horribly long, her body in general seemed to have lived a hard life. She was also returned to the shelter due to a report of her having a seizure. Because of these issues and her age we opted to run blood work and urine testing to rule out any major organ dysfunction. The good news was that Torii overall checked out well for her age with knowing the little we knew of her past.
After a week in our care, Torii had an episode that baffled us. We didn't know what it was so, we wrote down some notes about what we saw and then watched and waited. A week later she had another odd episode and this time we were able to get some video of what she was doing. We then went to the vet with Torii and our video. The thought was that these episodes were likely seizures despite their odd presentation. We had a long consultation with our vet to determine what to do next. A couple of days passed as we were sorting out what to do and then Torii had two significant seizures in the course of six hours. It was clear that medication was the next step.
Torii has been on anticonvulsants medication for just about 3 weeks and we are happy to report that she is responding well! Her seizures are of unknown origin and we are hopeful that she will remain seizure free.
Torii hasn't missed much of a beat and we are happy that she is in foster care where she can get the care she needs.
