When Gramercy came to us he couldn't walk more than a couple hundred feet. This was due to a variety of things - atrophy of muscles from his long stint at the shelter, poor health, being over weight and his leg issues. He's now at a good weight, we are working on his health, we have his leg surgery scheduled and we are slowing working on building up the muscle in his legs.
At this point Gramercy gets 2 walks a day. We are slowing building up his distance which at this point is about 10 blocks round trip. When we met with the vet, she suggested we do this just gradually seeing how his body does with the walking and to slowly build muscle.
The good and bad news is that Gramercy loves to go for walks, even more so now that he's feeling better so his mind wants to much further than his body can take him. Below you can see how this fantastic boy is doing when he's out and about!
On the move, you can see how that front foot right foot rolls
Checking out who's been in the boy's hood!
Doing what a boy does on a walk!
We try very hard to keep Gramercy walking on grass. As you can see sometimes easier said than done! Gramercy is a happy go lucky very curious boy who loves to see what's going on in the world.
He's a boy who moves at a slower pace - he likes to stop and smell the roses or should I say grass!
We have a large grass park near our house and I decided to take Gramercy and D over to see if Gramercy would like to run for a couple of minutes on the grass. I don't like retractable leashes for a variety of reasons. However, this is a case where one comes in handy - just wish it was longer. Note to self having one dog on a retractable and the other on a 6ft lead is not the best set up... Next time I'll just take Gramercy and the retractable.
Watching the Boston Terrier playing with a soccer ball. Gram would have loved to join in.
