Dandy has a new name!

Good grief who would have ever guessed naming our dog would be so difficult!  My problem is that I've know of Dandy since December 2010 when we were first contacted about him.  We had a very emotional roller coaster ride of trying to get him into foster care which lasted over nine months. His person went back and forth with us wanting to surrender him and then would change her mind sometimes on the same day we were scheduled to pick him up.  So for just about 2 yrs he's been Dandy to us. Now I do not like the name Dandy and I wanted to give him a fresh start with a name change.  We've been batting around names for the last moth and finding one that fit him has not been easy.  When we get a new foster, we don't know the dog so whatever name we pick the dog just suits the name.  Not true when one has know a dog for as long as we've know Dandy.

So... drum roll as his new name is now D-light!  We also are calling him Sweet D, D-lion and just D.  We've actually called him these names for a number of months and D-light sticks with me as he truly is a delight to be around and have as part of our family.   Love, love, love this special boy.

Here's some updates on how he's been doing!  With D-light it's the small things that he's been doing that just warms our hearts and bring all of us so much joy.

My main boy got himself a new sweater - yes he is a mamma's boy and now has the sweater to prove it!  This just cracks me up when he uses the sweater to scratch his back - funny boy!

His new sweater!

Words cannot express how wonderful it is to see him acting more and more like a normal dog and GUESS what?! The camera is not on super zoom - I'm right there up close and personal. Amazing considering how scared he use to be of the camera.

D- light was always a toy shredder, so much so that there were no plush toys in our house. He would do this out of anxiety and stress. Since late May he pretty much stopped shredding and actually now enjoys playing with a plush toy. If he goes over threshold he will chew a toy but, that doesn't happen all that often these days.

This is little routine we have around touch (in that first second I was to quick with the camera and you can see him move to get distance from it.  This "toe touch" has turned into a special game between us. He will often do this with both myself and my husband. You can see he still retreats from to quick of a touch near his face. We are continuing to work on this in his TTouch sessions.

While chewing on a bone seems normal - we've started getting pretty excited that he is now seeking out and frequently chewing bones. Up until about a month ago, he might chew a bone once in a blue moon.

Life is good for D-light and for us with sweet D as part of our family!
