Dandy's marking - not the way you are thinking...

In working with Dandy we had to start with the bare basics of "marking" the behavior we were seeking from him. He could not tolerate the noise from an i-clicker or a box clicker so we used the word "yes". At first that even was worrisome for him because of the tone but, one he figured out that "yes" = yummy treats he decided to be brave and give it a try. Dandy gets "marked" for all kinds of behavior: relaxing, looking at us, chewing on his bone, basic commands and just for being the sweet boy that he is! A lot of our "marking" is to build his confidence, increase trust and for him to have fun being a rattie.

Well, we have moved up in the world to using the i-clicker in the house and at class and then the box clicker out on walks (since it's louder). If you are curious about clicker training (which I highly recommend) check out one of our other foster parents post http://merrypaws.blogspot.com/2012/07/click.html it's a great read, full of wonderful information that is easy to follow!

I see you have that clicker in one hand and a treat in the other!
