Kerloo in action!

Kerloo rolled in Monday night without missing a beat!  He's a boy who's on the move and curious about everyone and everything.

Here's Kerloo's first meeting with Catty and Dandy

Dinner time along with some fun dancing

Horrible picture quality but, he's settling in no problem

Again bad lighting but, you can see he enjoys a good toy!

New foster boy Kerloo has arrived!

Say hello to Kerloo!!! This adorable 4-5 month old boy arrived to us a week early and he is ALL fun loving puppy! Kerloo was picked up as a stray, brought to a shelter and his time was out.  One of our California New Rattitude volunteer's traveled a good distance to rescue him.  He was being temped with her in Fresno and she said he was amazing and she wasn't kidding.  Kerloo is a real sweet heart and full of puppy personality.

We've been telling Dandy and Catty to rest up as the household is going to get lively once Kerloo arrives and that's certainly true!

Below is Kerloo hangin with his temporary foster mom in Fresno, CA. She's amazing & she single handedly has rescued well over a dozen ratties for Washington of which this includes: my foster kiddo's Celilo (now Pinkie), Champoux (Poux) and Boushey (Boo).  All rattie's who got 2nd chance thanks to her hard work, love of the breed & rescuing throw away dogs!

Dandy working = some tender time...

My husband was sitting out on the deck and Dandy came out looking for some attention. My husband sat on the deck to see what Dandy would do next and true to Dandy, when he's conflicted it's time to find a baby to help him work through his conflict.  Dandy went inside and found this baby and was up for some work of taking risks and building trust.  This is a routine that we frequently go through with Dandy as he really is an affectionate dog, he just continues to struggle with his inner conflict around trusting that he can seek out attention and that all will be ok.

Dandy backed in as a way to start his process of getting pets and touching

After a bit of time, it was time to work on trust and in came the kisses and ear rubs.

That worked well and it was time for some side face stroking/touching, something we are working on with Dandy

A break was given to Dandy by my husband moving his face away from Dandy. This is something Dandy often needs as that much intensity results in Dandy moving away.

So far so good, you can see the start of furrow in his brows, the soft eyes and his body is now sideways against my husband, not backed in.

Resting while still getting ear, back and neck touching.  All in all a good exercise and confidence builder for Dandy!

Dandy asks "Why has it been so hot?!"

Dandy has not been enjoying the heat and despite initially being worried about the fan, he decided pretty quickly that it was his friend!

Can you please move it closer to me!

Much better!

Stretched out and enjoying the breeze!

When is it getting back into the low 70's?!

It's hot but, everyone still needs to be close, touching to each other!

Dandy able to fall asleep, sweet boy!

Lacey comes to visit...

I've been so busy that I forgot about this post!  Say hello to Lacey (formerly Ida), our first foster girl through New Rattitude.  Lacey was up for the Pacific Northwest Rattifest.  We never had any intention of fostering in fact we adopted Catty knowing she was going to be an only dog due to her reactivity with dogs.  This issue was one of the reasons we adopted her.  We were purposely looking for a hard to adopt older terrier.  When I saw Catty on petfinder and she had the no kid, no dog, no cat tag I knew she was the kind of dog we wanted.  Fast forward 4 months, I started volunteering for New Rattitude as an Adoption Coordinator and 6 months later we were fostering Lacey.  She was brought to Washington from a shelter in Texas and was high heartworm positive and needed treatment.  Because of her heartworm "load" she needed a quiet foster home to go through 2+ months of treatment of which the bulk of that time she would have to be crated/contained (a requirement during heartworm treatment).  We figured this was a perfect fit, all of us and Catty could manage while helping out this really sick dog.

We'd never really heard of heartworms and we quickly found out way more than we probably ever wanted to know. Heartworms are nasty and they are 100% treatable with a monthly pill that costs around $3. I quickly found out why New Rattitude is more amazing than I had already thought.  I started to get really freaked out that Lacey might die or if we were doing what we were suppose to be doing.  One of the Georgia New Rattitude volunteer's sent me countless emails, spoke to me at length on the phone providing lots of great information while giving tons of support during the course of the treatment.  I knew that when I was worried she would be there for me to answer my questions or basically hold our hand during the 2+ months.  She really got us through more than she'll ever know and she's one of the reason we continued to foster.  When you have this much of a support network who are all about helping the dogs and supporting a worried foster parent it's hard not to get bit by the "foster" bug!

When your first foster dog gets adopted it's really hard and given what we went through with Lacey I knew I was going to be an emotional wreck.  Lucky for me, my mom was looking for a dog as her lab had died recently.  She knew all about Lacey and what an amazing girl she was so it was pretty much a no brainer and while I was so thrilled I also cried once Lacey went to live with my mom.  But, there was no rest for the weary - our 2nd foster arrived a week later and we haven't looked back.

We continue to be careful with bringing in a new foster dog because of Catty's fear issue's but, she's a trooper and she continues to amaze us!  Way to go brave girl you too are helping to save a rattie life!
The first day when Lacey was so skinny and sick

Finished two months worth of heartworm treatment, no more kenneling!

Taken the weekend of rattifest - relaxing, enjoying the sun

Sweet girl, she was our first foster & she'll always be special to us!

Lacey trying to enjoy the sun - she's used to being an only dog!  Catty & Dandy wondering what's going on.
