Ursa & Dandy loves to go for walks! Catty does too but, shes dog reactive on leash so, I've not been waking her with Ursa as I don't want Usa's young mind being influenced by Catty. When Ursa first came to us she was reactive on leash to people and dogs. With not a whole lot of work, she's now super when she sees a dog or people. I'm guessing Ursa wasn't walked prior to coming to New Rattitude so, seeing new things and new people was scary. Lots of people think a dog barking/growling on leash is aggression. When in fact the majority of the time it's a fear based reaction. This is true for Catty and was true was Ursa. The way we worked through this with Ursa was that when she would see a person or a dog she would get a treat. Ideally we would see the person or dog far enough away that she wouldn't go over her threshold - that doesn't always work and early on even if she barked at the person or dog she got a treat. Ursa learned very quickly that seeing people or dogs on a walk = an awesome treat! Because Ursa is so smart, I've been working with her on recall and the word "look". Teaching her to come to a sound and/or then the word "look" comes in really handy. Especially when I need her to pay attention to me (like when she wants to go after a crow) of sees something new she's uncomfortable with. Doing this work with a dog builds trust, confidence and connection. It's also fabulous at working a very smart little rattie mind!

Ursa knows my "kiss kiss" call
Both Dandy & Ursa learning the word "look"
Ursa starting to see a crow and she begins to pull so I say "look"
More working on "look" - such smart rattie's
