Royal checking out the new digs...

Royal is a great fella!  He's clearly nervous taking in his new surroundings but, that to be expected.   From what I've pieced together from his paperwork - Since at least October 2013 he's been at the shelter twice and been in at least 3 different homes.

Royal was surrendered back to the shelter in early February and the paperwork lets the person surrendering the dog know in writing that the dog may be held for as little as 96 hours and they may be euthanized at any time after that period.  The amount of time that the animal is held is based on available space.

Lots of people get angry at the shelters and in my opinion, that's misdirected anger.  The shelters are full due to overpopulation and that's the humans fault - not the shelters and not the dogs.  Lucky for Royal a very nice woman who rescues German Shepherds met him at the shelter, contacted Lynn and then took Royal in until we could get him up here.

He's a beautiful boy

Royal is a bit concerned with the training equipment

"Where did this yummy thing come from?!"
I toss a treat near Royal - I do this for two reasons: 1) to get his mind doing something else 2) to reinforce this room isn't a scary place

No big surprise who's close by!  Catty knows that new foster dogs = lots of high value items and she certainly isn't going miss out.

Waiting...  Catty's tail is moving a mile a minute
Royal has figured out that the treats are coming from me and he decides that paying attention to me is a good thing.

Wondering where D'light is during all of this?

Royal has now discovered that the treats come from the bag!

D'light says "Hey he's cheating!"

Catty waiting patiently and her behavior was rewarded a number of times!
