Gramercy is doing well!

 Look who's doing great post surgery!  Gramercy is on R&R (although he missed that memo) which means he is confined to "his room" except to go out and use the bathroom.  Gramercy is not allowed to jump up or down - can't get on or off furniture, can't go up stairs.  He also has to have his food and water raised so that he doesn't stress his neck.  What's probably the hardest for Gramercy is no toys.  You've seen him with toys - he LOVES them.  He cannot have them right now because he shakes and throws them.  We keep telling him that this will all be over before he knows it.  He's recovery time of complete R&R is 2 weeks.  We will meet with the neurologist at the 2 week mark and go from there.

 

  Given how well Gramercy is doing I think his recovery time will be just a blink of an eye for him.  The neurologist had said that a total of 6 weeks is what Gramercy needs for moderate to mild restrictions.  After that 6 weeks the world had better watch out as Gramercy will be living each day to it's fullest and of course pain free! 

 

Gramercy's ability to be pain free is due to all of his supporters and New Rattitude!  So he sends lots of kisses to each and every one of you.

A bath for Inigo upon arrival!

Sweet little Inigo needed a bath as he's a bit road rough. Meaning he's on the thin side, rough coat and was not smelling so fresh.  Poor kiddo - according to the shelter he was brought in as a stray so who know how for how long he was on his own.

 

Of all the dogs we've had he's by far the best at getting a bath!  We try to go slow since most dogs have never been bathed so, a new experince that we want to go well.

Ok time for the warm water and a shampoo.  He was a great sport as you can see!

Say hello to Inigo!

Wonder how we came up with this name since our naming theme is Washington wine?

Given we have Gramercy I wanted to rift of this wonderful winery and that wasn't to difficult!  My favorite Gramercy wine is their Tempranillo and they named it Inigo Montoya.

 

 

I had no idea the popularity of the movie Princess Bride and I think I'm the only person out there who hasn't seen this movie!

So whether you're a wine or movie fan everyone should love this pup's new name!

 

And even if you don't like his name how could you not love his cute self?!

 

No more shelter days for this sweet boy!

 

Big news...

A lot has been going on of which one big thing is that Gramercy went in for spine surgery. He stayed at the vet for 2 days for monitoring and pain management. Once the surgeon went in to remove the lesion it was discovered the lesion was worse than first expected - it was not only sitting on top of the nerve, it also wrapped between his spinal cord and a major nerve - pressing down hard. The surgeon was pleased that he didn't have to remove any joint material because they knew exactly were to operate because of the MRI. He said by not removing the joint material Gramercy won't lose joint support and he will recuperate quicker!

 

Great news is that Gramercy was a total rock star and is feeling and doing very well. Below are pictures and video of Gramercy's first couple of hours back at our house.  The below pictures & video are 3 days post surgery.

What's next for Gramercy? We will list him on petfinder as available as of mid April.  Of course whoever applies for him will be fully informed of his medical issues and rehab which should be a total of 6 weeks and then ongoing lifetime care.

We are getting a 2nd foster...

Given all that's going on with Gramercy we've been trying to stick to just one foster dog.  Well, when I heard abouth and then showed my husband this little boy I knew we were going into foster overload... 

Sadly we are not the only foster parents going into overload - there have been a number of hightly adoptable, adorable young pups that were not going to make it out without our help.  Here's a post of  what's going on with all these puppies...

 

Many thanks to our foster parents because they were able to squeeze in another foster - four young puppies will have a chance at a new wonderful life!

 

Our new little guy is 3-4 month old, brown tri colored rattie.

 

 

A house guest!

Life is getting very busy at our house and that includes having little Evo hanging out with us until Friday.  Evo has been in foster care with New Rattitude for about 5 weeks and he's made huge strides thanks to his foster family.  When Evo started in foster care he was a frightened little boy who had clearly spent very little time (if any) in a house.  He seemed to have never experienced all the great things that come with having a loving family around.  I'm guessing given his presentation he didn't "show well" at the shelter - this is very common with rat terriers. It's likely he was passed over by prospective adopters and he quickly became urgent due to shelter space.  Lucky for Evo, his foster parents had an opening to rescue him.

I met Evo after he'd been in foster care for a couple of days and he was very worried.  While he did come up to me he pancaked down, his back was roached (out of fear) and I never saw his tail.  He would anxiously chew on a bully stick but, any type of play was not on his radar. 

 

His foster family did wonderful work with him and look how far this sweet little fella has come.  Below is his first day at my house and you can see we have a very different boy.  Kudos to his foster family who are very busy with two young active kids and they adjusted their life to help Evo (and other foster dogs - Evo is their 5th foster) begin to learn how to love, trust and have fun.
