Baer is a great dog for a lot of reasons. One of the many reasons is because he has no problem quietly and calmly resting on his bed. He does this when we are busy and he often likes to bring along a buddy!

Sweet Baer is a boy who like to get out and experience the environment! And let me tell you he can go, go, go and he doesn't drag behind. People often think that small dogs and middle aged dogs can't walk long. I can guarantee you that Baer can out walk a human. On this walk we covered over 6 miles and he was still would have been happy to keep going.
He's great on all different kinds of terrain and he's fun to walk with.

Off we go and you can see he has a good pace while walking. He walks so well on leash that I was able to quickly switch from two to one point of contact.
It's a toy he found in the toy box and it's time to see if Baer will chase after it once we throw it.

While Baer is middle aged, he loves to play and this boy is quick! We played this game for a good 30 minutes and we are working on bringing the toy back to us. What a fun sweet boy!
The first day in foster care (or a new home) is a lot for a dog to take in - really it's the first week or longer depending on the dog. They are in a new environment with new people and often new dogs. It always amazes me how a dog can adapt taking in such huge life changes. I would think it's a similar experience to a human not being told and dropped down in a foreign place - imagine your confusion, anxiety and even fear with this situation. So, keep this in mind and be thoughtful, gentle and patient with any new dog that comes into your home.
The first day often includes a necessary bath so, handling by complete strangers. We try to do this as gently & calmly as possible - providing food as a reinforcer for their patience. Baer did well all thing considered and he was very happy when bath time was complete.
After a bath it was time for Baer to check out the house!

I picked up Baer last night around 5pm and from my first interaction with him I was thinking "How did this guy end in the shelter?"
Coming off transport Baer was curious to meet me and quiet in his crated for the ride back home. He clearly likes men and women which is pretty great. Stairs are something he's not use to but, I'm sure he will get that down pretty quickly.
Once we were home, it was time to do our regular routine of meeting Catty and D'light and there wasn't a single issue. This boy has good dog to dog skills. It's pretty rare that a foster dog doesn't offend our house dogs and Baer is going to fit in nicely!
After exploring our house it was time for a bath and then time to kick back and unwind from his last couple of busy days.
Baer is a middle aged Rat Terrier and as I said he's at an age that I really enjoy. He still has a good dose of terrier in him but, his personality is established and he's happy to just hang out/not needing constant supervision & management like the younger dogs.
Baer is a beautiful boy with long legs and beautiful coloring. Pictures really don't do him justice.
From what we've seen Baer is a pretty amazing dog and if people can get over his age (which isn't old!) then he should have lots of adopters wanting to adopt him.
Back from vacation and with my work schedule starting to stabilize it's time to get back to fostering!
We are excited to meet our newest foster who we've named Baer (pronounced Bear). We've named him after Baer Winery.
Baer arrives later today and he is 6-7 years old, 11lbs. We're told he's a sweet, well rounded fella. In my mind he's at that perfect age and we are looking forward to fostering him.
