Gramercy will have his own little claim to fame!

Back in late January I was contacted by a very nice lady in Ohio.  Helen had been following Gramercy in foster care and was taken by his story and his adorable self.  She let me know that she was writing her third and final book about her own Teddy Roosevelt Terrier, Percy.  We both agreed that Gramercy and Percy sure do look a lot alike in the face!

Helen's question to me was: Would it be ok to include Gramercy's picture in the book and showcase him as an example of someone needing help.  And my response was "Of course!"  So, the book is currently at the printers and we are very excited that Gramercy will have his own little claim to fame!

I've been touched by all the folks who have reached and and offered all different types of support to Gramercy.  This sweet boy was a dog that was not cared for and that no one wanted.  He sat in a shelter for well over 6 months as people just passed by him.  Once he became a New Rattitude dog his world quickly changed.  This was thanks to so many people who quickly realized what a wonderful boy he was.  I know many of his fans will miss reading about his daily adventures and seeing his goofy cute self but, I also know that everyone is thrilled that Gramercy has been adopted.  And not just to anyone - to a couple who fell in love with him and can't imagine not having him in their lives.  That's the kind of family we wanted for Gramercy - the boy who has been through so much and despite it all continues to be full of love and silly antics.

Gramercy's photo that will be in the book

Below are the links to the two other books that Helen has written - they are adorable just like Percy and Gramercy!

And Helen like many other folks, made a financial donation towards Gramercy's surgery and she included the below dedication.

"This donation is made on behalf of our Teddy Roosevelt Terrier, Percy, and goes to GRAMERCY and his leg surgery. We certainly wish Gramercy well! He is a dog with a lot of presence and deserves a chance to live a life without pain. "

All donations are featured on the New Rattitude Donor board (click on Helen's dedication to see all the names of the wonderful people who  have help so many rat terriers in need)

Yum, yum it's coconut oil!

As you know when Gramercy came to us his little body was in rough shape.  The one thing that we really struggled to get a handle on was his "funky" dog smell.  We tried a variety of things and what worked wonders was him eating coconut oil.

After about 2 weeks his funk was gone and his coat is now beautiful!  Gramercy loves coconut oil and it's very healthy for him.  Here's a great post from Dr Jean Dodd's blog post on the benefits of coconut oil for your pet

We started Gramercy out at 1/2 teaspoon twice a day for 1 weeks.  We then shifted him up to 1 teaspoon twice a day and he's been doing great.

Gramercy knows what comes out of this jar and he loves it!
Here's Gramercy's meal time prep.  His 1 teaspoon of coconut oil in the bowl and his less than 1/4 cup of kibble.

This is a great food bowl if you don't want to deal with a more complex feeder or if you are feeding multiple dogs at once.  This is the Dogit Go Slow Bowl and it does slow a dog down in terms of eating.

And as you can see, because this bowl is so small it looks like he's getting a lot of food.  So, this is a good feeding bowl for the human to use.  This way the human don't feel bad for what they feel is such a small amount of food.

All ready for dinner

You can see Gramercy licking up the oil and then eating the rest of his meal.

Because I know you want to see more Gramercy!

I find this video fascinating so I wanted to share it.  This video was take after Gramercy had been with us for a couple of weeks so, back in January 2013.

Gramercy wants D to play.  You can see Gramercy trying to figure out if D feels the same way.  D is often very conflicted when it comes to engaging with the foster dogs.  So, we watch and try to sort out if we need to step in.  As you can see both boys do a pretty good job of communicating with each other.  You will notice that both boys have plenty of room to move away if they are feeling too much pressure in this exchange.

Whenever you intro a new dog into your home, the human needs to very aware of watching both dogs Observing how they are doing and if they need a break from each other.  While some dogs fold pretty easy into a home with another dog, other dogs may take more time.  So paying attention and giving breaks is very important for everyone.

Gramercy has been adopted!

I know for all the Gramercy fans (and he has a lot of them) you will be thrilled that he has a new family!  Not only has he been adopted but, his adopters and their home are perfect for him.  I honestly could not have hand picked a better home for this sweet boy.  Gramercy's new moms are retired so he's gonna get LOTS of attention and love.  They were not put off by his medical stuff and they have experience with long backed dogs.  Gramercy will have 2 cat siblings and I have to say he did pretty great at the meet-up.  As many of you know not all terriers are cool with cats!

We've been through a lot with sweet Gramercy and he's been with us for a long time. We feel very lucky to have fostered Gramercy and to help him get the care he needed.  This boy is no longer in pain thanks to all the generous and wonderful people who sponsored him.  And of course because New Rattitude was able to medically do so much for him.

So everyone give a big happy "atta-boy" to Gramercy as his life is going to become pretty amazing as he starts his new life.

Gramercy will be with us until May 23rd so you will still get to see him on this blog!

Syzygy has been adopted!

I knew Syzygy wouldn't be with us long and that's very exciting!  This goes back to the "don't you want to keep them all" question.  Syzygy's days were up at the overcrowded shelter and by us having a foster spot his life was saved.  He now has a wonderful new family who has quickly fallen in love with him.  We were just a bridge between death and a wonderful life for this great little guy.  I'd be that bridge any day of the week!

Ready for his new life!
Syzygy will soon go by Harley and he's going to have an amazing life down in Oregon. He will have another dog to romp around with and a little boy who will love cuddling with him.  We are so excited for him and we want to thank his family for looking to rescue.  They have not only given Syzygy a 2nd chance at life but they have played a part in rescuing our next foster girl Syncline. Stay tuned to meet her - she will arrive to Washington on May 10th.

Busy Friday for Gramercy, D'light & Syzygy

D'light, Gramercy and I head up to Blaine yesterday to meet two wonderful ladies!  Both boys travel well and once we reached our destination, Gramercy had an awesome two hours of showing off his hilarious and very cute self.

D'light was worried he wasn't going - this is Gramercy's crate!

I was getting myself organized in the car and you can see Gramercy thinking "Lets get this show on the road!" He was zipped up and we were off.

After the visit Gramercy was exhausted!  He was out like a light 100 feet out of the driveway.  Gramercy will tell you that it's pretty tiring being so cute and having sooo much fun.

He slept the full 2.5 hour ride home!

We got home and I unzipped his crate and let him know it was time to wake up.

Gramercy smiling because he had such a great time!

We got into the house and Gramercy needed a little hedgie time.  The ladies we met also had a hedgie for Gramercy and he thought it was pretty awesome.  He showed off his amazing toy skills and they were no doubt impressed!

All tuckered out from his road trip!
D'light needed a nap - riding in the car is exhausting!

Were you wondering why Syzygy didn't get to partake in the road trip?!  Well funny puppy boy got to go with his foster dad to work.  Syzygy had a ton of fun meeting new people and as you see he worked hard.

Pink bunny is the current toy of choice!

Gramercy says: "Pink bunny you're my favorite today"

Gramercy LOVES to play with toys and you can see he thinks Syzygy should feel the same way!  Syzygy was just waiting... and I love watching Gramercy's reaction.

Poor Syzygy still wearing the donut when we can't watch him 100% of the time.  As you can see he can play even while wearing it.  Gramercy was just excited that Syzygy finally wanted to play with pink bunny!
